CGC Listserv
Join the discussion! Pose and answer questions to the graduate communication support community about pedagogy, resources, administration, or other topics in real time, either by email or on the listserv site. You do not need to be a paying member of the CGC to join.
Join the listserv
- Send an email to list+subscribe@cgc.groups.io. In your Subject line, write “Subscribe.” The body of the message can be empty.
- You will receive a confirmation request by email, to which you should Reply. (Again, no content necessary).
- Once approved (within 24-48 hours), you’ll receive another email with further instructions on how to use the listserv. Reading those should make your life easier.
- You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the end of any listserv email, or by sending an empty email to list+unsubscribe@cgc.groups.io.
To ensure a productive, professional, and relevant discussion, read and follow the guidelines below for use of the listserv.
General Policies for Posting to the Listserv
- When posting, include 1) a clear message in the subject line and 2) your name, position, and organization at the bottom of each message you post/send.
- Do not send personal messages meant for one person. All information posted should be appropriate for group consumption. Similarly, if you press Reply to a message, you will respond to the entire listserv; only do so when your response is of relevance to the larger group. Otherwise, press Forward and reply directly to the relevant individuals.
- Consider including links to resources instead of file attachments.
Other Policies and Expected Etiquette
- Post only materials that are of potential benefit to CGC members, i.e., those working in graduate communications support. Job listings or invitations to programs or conferences are acceptable but only if they are relevant to graduate communication professionals.
- Make sure it is clear in your message how the material is of interest to graduate communication professionals. For example, readers should not have to click through to a website to figure out how something is relevant to them—or worse, do so and then discover that it is not.
- The listserv is not a platform for commerce, and listserv subscribers agree not to post advertisements for businesses or media (e.g., books or podcasts) that do not directly, clearly, and broadly serve graduate communications support. For example, a copyediting service for graduate students would not be acceptable, whereas a consulting service advising instructors or even students on all aspects of graduate communications would be. Listserv members violating this guideline may be removed; if you are unsure, you may inquire (prior to posting) to communications@gradconsortium.org.
- Unless otherwise stated, information shared in the listserv should be considered to have been posted for CGC members only. Do not forward any part of an online discussion to non-CGC individuals without the express approval of the original message’s sender.
- Please help to keep the CGC listserv a respectful environment and a platform for reasoned (if passionate) debate. Assume good faith and intent on the part of others, and be tactful and respectful in your responses.
