Mentoring Mondays were inspired by the casual mutual mentoring we enjoy at CGC’s Summer institutes, at which many of us learn as much from each other at lunch tables and breakout rooms as we do in formal sessions.  Like Friday Chats, these sessions extend chances between Summer Institutes for CGC members to connect, but unlike Friday Chats, they do not have a monthly theme or start with a presentation. Instead, they function as informal, mutual office hours for colleagues to drop by and ask others for input, whether those colleagues are new to teaching graduate communication, feeling isolated in their graduate communication work this term, facing a specific curricular or administrative challenge, or ramping up to start a new aspect of programming.  CGC folks are invited to drop by for part or all of each session with questions to mull over with mentors in an informal way, and/or to participate in responding to the questions of others.   

The mentoring team hosting the sessions consists of Jane Freeman from the University of Toronto, Angelo Pitillo from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and Melissa Myers and Nate Lindberg from Cornell University. While we will moderate the monthly discussions and lead break-out rooms if we have sufficient participants, the sessions are intended as mutually enriching opportunities to learn from everyone present.  

We have had many lively and helpful conversations in our Mentoring Monday sessions, which we have held monthly since October, 2024. Many thanks to all who have been participating.
