Summer Institute
The annual Summer Institute (SI) is the CGC’s flagship annual event and invites the graduate communications support community—both CGC members and non-members— to gather to connect and collaborate across the field. Presentations and discussions center around new pedagogical and administrational practices, ideas, and research as well trends and developments in the field and those affecting us from outside of it. Over the past decade, the annual SI has become essential and sustaining for such conversations.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the now alternates between in-person and virtual formats in order to facilitate, on one hand, the inimitable connection and energy that comes gathering in person and, on the other, allowing as many people to join as possible through the less expensive virtual platforms.
Join us to (re)connect with colleagues and navigate together the ever-changing fields of graduate communication in higher education today!
Yale University, host of the CGC’s first SI (2016) has graciously offered to host the 2027 Summer Institute.

Hosting a virtual SI “is a great opportunity to help the graduate communication community, especially if your institution is in a hard-to-reach location,” says CGC Co-Chair Kristina Quynn. The SI Committee will work closely with you every step of the way, and Vicki Kennell of Purdue University (host of the 2024 virtual SI) has put together an excellent manual outlining everything that needs to be done.
